Description

Day 1: Welcome to the jungle and first Amazon walk

Reception at the airport or bus terminal and transfer to Monte Amazónico’s office for check-in. If you carry large suitcases, we recommend repacking and taking only the essentials. We travel by road for about 2 hours to reach the banks of the Tambopata River, where we’ll board a boat to the “Hacienda Tambopata” lodge. After a welcome and room assignment, we’ll enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, we take an introductory walk into the rainforest with opportunities to spot wildlife in its natural habitat — amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and fascinating insects.

Day 2: Sunrise adventure and macaw clay lick show

We wake up early at 4:30 a.m. to head by boat to Collpa Chuncho, the world’s largest macaw clay lick. Along the 1.5-hour boat ride, there’s a good chance of spotting capybaras (the world’s largest rodent), tapirs, and even jaguars — some guests have captured amazing photos of these encounters.

Upon arrival, we settle into small chairs to witness one of the world’s most impressive bird spectacles: hundreds of parrots and three species of red, green, blue, and yellow macaws that fly in to eat the clay, which is crucial to their diet and detoxification. A once-in-a-lifetime natural experience.
